Great surprize this morning

I always open the blind on the kitchen door first thing in the morning, I saw something black and yellow on the porch, mercy there was 4 kittens and one cat, 3 black ones and one yellow and one grey tabby cat (which was not the momma cat) (must have been the baby sitter). I went back to the bedroom and got hubby out of the bed, he was sure I was kidding him. They look to be about old enough to wean. It was raining hard early part of the morning, I was not sure they could eat solid food, boy was I wrong, they flew into the cat food hubby put out like they were right at home. Finally momma cat and an old tom (feral cat) we have been feeding for a couple years, momma is mostly black with a little yellow and big green eyes. She has been here to eat off and on since Feb. We had not seen her for a month or so...Everyone ate hung around in the garden, which is fenced in area, for a few hours, now off to where feral cats go. Sure hope the kittens keep coming around. I will try to get some pic's of them.

Yep in this heat wave we loaded our cargo trailer

It is 101 degrees in Talbott as I write this post, hubby and I packed our cargo trailer for the Gatlinburg show today, everything we had on was soaking wet, we must be crazy to do this for a living and then again we have a lot of friends who are just as nuts. At least we are close to home and get to sleep in our own beds, this is better than traveling and and staying in hotels....I like home and the garden is producing a lot of tomatoes right now and it needs to be watered every day. When it does finally rain I think I will just stand out in it.
Lots of new designs for this show greeting cards, postcards, bookmarks, giclee prints and a Smoky Mountain Mandala canvas print.. Come see us at the convention center July 16- 24...

Getting Ready for the Gatlinburg show

I am busy trying to get everything together for the show in July at Gatlinburg, less than a month to have it all together, the older I get the slower I go. Its not like I have not had plenty of time, now its crunch time..
I could say I work better under pressure...

New size bookmarks with new images, 4 seasons mini prints of the Great Smoky Mountains mat size 8 x 10,  new greeting cards, new post-cards. I have a lot of printing to get finished. Today I am painting and I do need to get back at it, my helpful elves are as old as I am. Its is hotter than the hinges of hell here today, so we will be trying to stay cool, I think the good lord is trying to tell us something. Anywho I'm hoping everyone is staying cool.

Mountains and Trees Necktie from Zazzle.com
New Tie just in time for Father's Day

Day off in the park Bay's Mountain, Lunch with a squirrel and 2 deer

Well today my hubby said "let's take today off, it's rainy" Never let it be said that I let that pass. So I packed a couple of ham sandwiches, some water and chips and off to Kingsport's Bay's Mountain park. It was a little muggy, nice breeze, we found a picnic table and started on lunch, I looked up and here came a squirrel heading right at us, OK, I thought it's friendly, so it sat and putting its little paws on its tummy as to say I'm hungry too, did this twice as it move toward us, OK I am a pushover when it comes animals, I threw it a piece of bread, it ate its fill and left I looked up here was a small deer, of course I had to give it something too, My hubby is as big of a pushover as I am. In a few more minutes Bambie's mother was there too. Needless to say I was still hungry we  left the table. We had a nice walk in the park saw the wolves, deer. Seems like most of the animals were tucked in today. Nothing like a walk in nature to soothe your soul..If you are ever in Kingsport Tn take a short drive to Bays Mountain park, it is worth the 3.00 a car.  But Beware the squirrel tells the rest of the animals about your food. Happy Days.

Ending up having to order

Drafting Flim Hobby lobby does not carry this, I did get a good deal on some w-color brushes. I ordered some flim from Dick Blick when you can't find it anywhere else they always have what you are looking for..I will try some of the Yupo paper too. Nice day about 64, tomorrow will be nicer...maybe I can clean out the car, it looks like a pine forest exploded on the floor mats, too many pine trees in our yard, nay never too many trees.

Wednesday, March 17, 2010

Finally a Nice day

Tomorrow is going to be warm and cloudy but no rain. Since hubby ankle is feeling some better, think I'll get out of the house for a while, trip to Hobby Lobby for some watercolor pencils and look at brushes and see if they have drafting flim. Take peak at Pier One, they always have new things, teaks my artist's soul and makes me think of things I need to paint.

Hope everyone is going to have a nice day....

Just sent my contracts back for both of the Gatlinburg shows. I have really enjoyed having time off this winter, especially since I don't think the public is buying art. Hopefully this will change soon and we can get on with our lives.

Great dinner Wanchai Ferry sweet and sour chicken

I don't usually say anything about products unless they are really great, I just have to tell everyone to try Wanchai Ferry dinner if you like chinese food, easy to fix and yummie to eat better than most chinese resurants I have eaten in.We had the sweet and sour chicken, 20-30 minute cook time, rice cooks very quick, so be careful, just add chicken. You can find coupons on line for the frozen dinners, I  have not tried them yet...next trip to the store, wonder if Sam's carries them?  Wal-Mart has the dinner kit and frozen dinner, frozen meal is complete. Less than $4.00 for the dinner kit and I had 1.00 coupons. I had to buy some chicken too. Guess what we are having for supper?

Bamboo pen Wacom

Hubby got me a Bamboo pen for my birthday, great. I use a Wacom tablet on the computer downstairs, love it too! Wanted one for upstairs, getting to old in knees to be running up and down, bad enough when washing clothes. This little fella is great I have been using it with Elements 8 which is a really nice program, I had upgraded from Elements 5. I would put my stamp of approvel on both Bamboo and Elements 8. Of course I am still learning about 8 lots of new things to work with...

Wednesday, February 17, 2010

Oh Boy

Hubby broke a bone in his ankle, such good luck we are having this winter. I will be so glad when winter is over. 4-6 weeks recovery.....

Snow cowboys at the fence

Been one of those days, snow flurries all day, nothing sticking but cold and nasty. Off to Knoxville tomorrow, hoping the snow does not lay on the roads tonight. Hubby has a doctor's appointment in the morning, he slipped and busted his butt on our front steps (black ice) did a number on his ankle, it is black and blue.
I have worked on a commission for the last week or more, I tend to take a lot longer on something for a collector, I tried to get everything just right. Not like something you are doing because you really like it...I wish I could look in their mind to see what they wanted.
Oh well in my next life (mind reading artist)...the last 2 illustrations are from my children's book "Cowboy Snowman"

Friday, February 12, 2010

Geez Will it ever stop? Snow

The South is getting hammered with snow, but not here today, they are calling snow here Sunday morning, that's my birthday and for the last 2 years it has snowed. Oh well, I guess I will work on a commission I have to finish soon. We have always on our birthday's picked what the birthday person wants to do or where to go and eat, the whole day is theirs to do as they wish within reason.

Maybe the weather man will be wrong....I can wish...

Another New Design

If this bad weather keeps up I will get a lot of painting done. It's what I love doing. "Chickadee and Wine" watercolor pencils seems to be my choice these days.

Thursday, February 4, 2010

New design ready

"Barn Swallow and Posies" Watercolor pencils, available for licensing. Loving the time off from shows to be able to paint just a little different style than I usually do. Of course the wet and wild weather we are having helps too. I get to explore some unusual things that seems to roam around in my mind. I have always finished a painting in my mind before I commit it to paper, choosing the colors is done as I paint. I will be doing some more of these comtempary posies.

New greeting card design Xmas

I used one of our oldest pine trees as the model for this design. It has about this much snow on it today. Winter is really just getting started. Oh Boy!

More snow Oh Mercy!

Snow and some ice is really playing havoc with our Pine trees, several big limbs have broke, now on the ground, one was in the street early this morning, one has been touching the ground all day but not yet broken, guess this Mother nature's way of trimming them. Here it is after 4:30 weather people said it would be out of here by 4: Still snowing! We really love our trees and hate to see their limbs broken.
Working on designs for greeting cards and napkins and wine gift bags, since we are only doing 2 shows a year I will sending my art to be licensed. I guess old age has finally caught up with me, I would rather stay home and work than be on the road. After 30 some years my knees are shot and my husband has had 2 hip replacements plus a hernia repair this December.
Have been decluttering my studio 3 big bags of clutter is gone and more has to go. My studio has been downstairs and upstairs. My graphic table is in our what use to be dinning room by the picture window and bird feeders. I love John Denver and Joanne Shenandoah cd's and listen to Knoxville WIVK a lot while I paint. I been thinking about moving into our spare bedroom but at least with it in the dinning room I can cook and paint too. I have a birthday coming up soon and my hubby asked me last evening what I wanted, hmmmm, maybe one of those new bamboo pen wacom tablet for my computer upstairs, I used the big wacom tablet on the computer where I do my printing. Need to do some reserch on the little guy. Anyone out that has one let me know if you like it. My snowwoman design is finished but may need a border around.

Snow again in East Tennesse

Well still snowing starting late this evening, I painting most of the afternoon working on new designs, will be painting more tomorrow since it is supposed to snow up until about 4: pm, Cooked a pot navy beans with country ham and will roast a turkey breast tomorrow, so I can paint while it cooks. I love a snowy day or two.
We have been adopted by the feral cats in the neighboor, probably because we feed them, we could not watch them starve, this is the second winter for most of them. One big old grey and white tom has claimed one of the porch chairs to sleep in, of course we gave him a blanket. This fella has the biggest green eyes. Its about my bedtime. More later.

Here we are December 18th we have had rain, mix of rain and snow, then late this evening snow. This should put us in the Christmas mood...Love the snow as long as we have plenty to eat and we do, hubby is still recouping from his Hernia operation. Puddle in the kitchen this morning

I woke up this morning to sound of my husband calling my name, with the tone of voice I knew something was wrong, I hurried down the hall to " There's water on the floor in the kitchen"  Now I'm not a morning person, need coffee and a lot of it to be human. I looked, yep that's water in front of the ref. Damn where's my coffee. After a cup I did a little looking and mopping, coming from the ice maker, some is froze some is not. Not the best way to start a morning, after a call to our neighbor, he came to check it out, cut-off valve on the copper line in the basement was not working, new valve and all will be well, I hope. So how was your day?

I did start on a new tea-cup bird scratchboard late this evening, that will keep me busy for while. This one is the Bluebird.

New Scratchboard "Cup Of Cheer"

My "Cup Of Cheer"
My whimsical cardinal in a Bigger Than Life Antique tea-cup and
saucer. The tea-cup was one of my Mom's and in this day and
time we all can use a BIG cup of cheer.
I did the original in scratchboard, then to my computer, scanned
it, using my Wacom Tablet to paint in my colors, needless to say
I did have a stiff neck from the hours I put both at the graphic table
and the computer chair.
I have printed paper Giclee open edition and canvas Giclee that
is 8 x 8 gallery wrapped with a white feather on each side of the canvas
These will be available at the Gatlinburg Craftsmen's Fair in October.

I finally got back to doing some scratchboard art

After about 25 years I decided to do some scratchboad, it has been a long time, it came back fast, thank goodness! I finished a cow face for Christmas cards and 5 x 7 prints. I am quite pleased. This is the year I will do a Christmas print from scratchboard. That should keep me busy for a while. I guess as artists we do need a change of pace to keep us fresh.

They are calling for rain for the next 3 days here in East Tennessee, good time to work. Just wish I did not have to the grocery store thingie...and cook.
